The U.S. media framing of Latin American countries and their political leaders
A content analysis of the foreign news sections of the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times will analyze how these organizations currently frame Latin American countries and their political leaders. Framing analysis helps to understand how journalists and their news organizations illuminate or distort people and places. Framing reflects professional values, routines and ideologies, use of sources and resources. Considering that frames also frame framers, this study should enlighten news organizations' concepts of newsworthiness, news organizations' ideologies and perceptions of U.S. political interests and strategic alliances in the region.
